Week 7

This week Charlotte and I were practically done and were just finishing off our booklet which included our proposal, diary log and further information. In our own time we designed what we thought was the best idea for the lid and made it out of coloured dough which was then labelled.

Week 3

This week charlotte and I continued to brainstorm ideas about how we could create the lid and design it so it actually worked. After much trial and error we have still not come to a conclusion and will keep trying to understand the eaisent and most efficient way to make our lid work.

Week 6

This week charlotte and I brought in play-dough which we used to mould the shape of our lid. We had previously designed what it would look like and had decided instead of virtually creating it we would use dough as a way to show what our lid would look like and how it would work. Looking at our original idea we decided it would be beneficial to create each idea we had as it would show how our thinking grew overtime and how we finally came to our finale idea. Next week we will put together all the research we have and our proposal to make a booklet and we will show our mould and diagrams.

Week 2

In this double lesson since we had finished our proposal we began figuring out what materials we needed and how we would make the lid. Some of the previous ideas we had while researching would not be able to work so we began brainstorming again on how we would make the lid lock. From doing a lot of discussing we thought we might want to alter our original idea so we could make it properly.

Week 1

This week charlotte and I finished our proposal for our idea and gathered enough information so in the following week would be able to begin finding materials and discussing the easiest and most effective way to create lid for overdose prevention.

Our Idea

A lid on prescription drug bottles to help prevent overdosing

Research

These day the number of people dying from accidentally overdosing or overdosing on purpose is doubling. Data shows overdosing is a growing issue and in 2016 a total of 1045 people dyed form overdoing on opioid according to the National drug and Alcohol research centre.

Journey of making the Lid

Our first idea was to include a timer on the lid and make the first one using cardboard. However, we released it would be too difficult and it would not work. We are trying to make the lid small, so it has to be simple and easy and able to lock and shut whenever. When trying to design the product we had many setbacks because we were unsure what materials we would need and how we would only allow one tablet to come out at a time.   We have come to a conclusion that we will use 3D printing to create the lid.

Proposal

The target audience we are aiming for is all people who want to take their own lives by overdosing and all who use proscription pills. The problem we are addressing and working towards is to hopefully help decrease the number of people who overdose and to save lifesaving seconds which could potentially change someone’s mind. We have not strayed far from our original idea which was a special lid on pill bottles only allowing people to take 2 pills as the lid locks directly after you take the pill.

Stem- Week 10

This lesson charlotte and I finished researching and completed our proposal so next lesson we can go talk to someone about 3D printing. We went into more depth on how we could design our product and made sure we knew what tablets most people were overdosing on and if prescription drugs should be the ones we are focusing on.
